Colombia will remain one of the key growth markets in Latin America

With over 1.1 GW installed in Spain and 120 MW in Italy, Negratín Global Services projects 2–3 years of contract visibility and is preparing its expansion as an IPP, focusing on hybrid projects with battery storage.

Spanish company Negratín Global Services projects that Colombia will remain one of Latin America’s key growth markets, driven by demand for new generation capacity.

David Torrego Fernández, Managing Director of the Energy and Installations Division, highlighted that the country offers significant opportunities for large-scale projects, where the need for additional power positions Colombia as a strategic destination for solar energy investments.

“We are closing projects close to 200 MW and see this market as one of the most dynamic in the region,” he told Energía Estratégica, noting that solar development will take center stage with limited hybridization, as “the system’s priority is to increase electricity generation.”

Beyond Colombia, the company sees a favorable outlook across the region. In Chile, Negratín has built 960 MW; in Mexico, 683 MW; and in Peru, Panama, Bolivia, and Honduras, it continues to develop projects that strengthen its footprint in more than 10 countries, with over 4.5 GW of renewable capacity delivered worldwide.

However, one of the main challenges in Latin America is the shortage of skilled labor and specialized subcontractors, which drives up costs and delays execution timelines. To address this, Negratín forges local partnerships with subcontractors and suppliers that support its international pipeline, ensuring efficiency and competitiveness.

The company’s integrated in-house EPC model—covering engineering, construction, evacuation infrastructure, and O&M—combined with digitalization through digital twin technology, provides a competitive edge in the Latin American market by optimizing costs and guaranteeing traceability and operational safety.

In terms of concrete progress, Negratín is set to reach 675 MW in Colombia across built projects and its development pipeline, including recent milestones such as 187 MWp in Atlántico for Enel Colombia under a BOS model and 125 MWp, also in Atlántico, for Isagen, delivered under a full EPC scope including transmission lines, substation, and O&M.

Growth is further supported by the entry of TiLT Capital Partners and SWEN Capital Partners into its shareholding structure with a 38% stake. “This qualitative leap gives us the financial strength to grow as a general contractor and as an energy producer,” Torrego emphasized, enabling the company to accelerate the construction of its own plants and tackle larger-scale projects.

Negratín, which surpassed €100 million in revenue in 2024, anticipates that 2025 will be its best year yet, with ambitious business targets and an expanding workforce.

With this backing, the company is poised to play a key role in Latin America’s energy transition, where Colombia emerges as a central market and countries like Chile and Mexico complement a rapidly expanding portfolio.
